All counted Benidorm
has more than fifty fiestas every year, probably more than
any other city in the world. That fact alone tells you a great
deal about the charm, energy and fun loving character of this
town.
Among the many local attractions there is Aqualandia. One of the
biggest aquatic parks in Spain. Among its attractions are -
the Rapids, Niagra, the Black Hole and Kamikaze! Aqualandia
park is as popular among the locals as it is with the
tourists.
Just beside Aqualandia there is Mundomar, a marine and
exotic animal park . Here, as well as dolphins and seals you
will find parrots and other tropical birds in a large and
attractive setting.
If nightlife is what interests you then a visit to the Benidorm
Palace is essential. Benidorm Palace is a night club with
a comfortable seating capacity of over 2000 people. It has one
of the largest stages in Europe where Spanish dancing and
flamencoas well as variety acts are performed.
Question: Is it possible for ancient history to be better
than the beach as for all round family entertainment? Before
you rush to conclusions, visit Terra Mittica (or
Land of Myths) and get a new perspective on all that dusty
history. Opened in July-2000, Terra Mytica is one of the
biggest theme parks in Europe. Its situation at the foot of
the Sierra Cortina, just a short distance from Benidorm,
offers fantastic panoramic view of bay of Benidorm. But the
views are not the main attraction of Terra Mitca. Visitors
come here to escape into historical time and to visit the
major mediterranean cultures which flourished and shaped the
present century. The park is divided into five areas,
Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia and The Islands. These areas are
set in or arround a lake symbolizing the Mediterranean. Each
section has its own attractions and distinctive atmospher and
rides which are suitable for both young children and adults
(if that is possible). Terra Mytica also has a varied
programme of shows inspired by mythology - heroes and legends
from each of the different areas.
Elsewhere, but back in reality, there are many opportunitys
for you to improve you knowledge of history. The town of Guadalest
which dates back to 715 when the Moors settled in Spain must
be a compelling example. The Guadalests fortress is a huge
area high on the mountain. Access to the fortress was through
the gate of St José. Extending outward from the gate are the
Moors houses. Here there are the little streets and squares
which give Guadalest its unique appeal.
For just a quiet break and a little gentle souvenir
shopping it is hard to better a gentle wander arround the
cobbled streets of Altea (situated just along the coast from
Benidorm). Altea hosts numerous fascinating shops selling
local craftworks, paintings fashion items and gifts. It is
also the location of one of the Costa Blanca's most
distinctive landmarks - the church of Altea with its
magnificent dome of blue and white glazed ceramic tiles.
Lastly one should not forget the city of Valencia, which is
the second city of Spain presumably between Madrid and
Barcelona! As such you can expect from Valencia all the
attractions that a major city should offer including museums,
theaters, cathedrals etc. This is an ancient city which has
grown and adapted to the times, conserving its heritage while
becoming a leading economic and financial centre in modern
Spain. Valencia: A Virtual
